A bit of catch up

We've been strangers around here lately. Our lives are pretty busy. I'll try and give you a run down.
I started online photography schooling and am working toward my diploma and learning a whole lot. I got a PS CS5! I am super excited about that.
We had a big Thanksgiving dinner Saturday and will have a smaller, simpler one on Thanksgiving day.
Wedding planning is going. But at a nice slow pace. Lys and I got our dresses ordered and are waiting for them to come in. We have the officiator, but not the venue. Everything else is going alright.
I got a car Monday. A silver Mercury Sable. It's really nice. I haven't a license yet, I'm gonna get one in January. I have driven it twice and will take T. Lynn to her dentist appointment tomorrow.
I was sick with some sort of stomach bug for almost two weeks and am finally starting to feel alright again. I didn't eat much though for two weeks and now I feel like I can't get full. It's pretty annoying.
Let me see, what else, what else? (Ugh, I'm annoyed with my glasses - moving on.)
I am sadly behind on Christmas shopping/sewing. I need to desperately clean my room and I painted my nail deep purple ;) My iPod is in sad shape (the stripped ear phone plug in is getting worse) and I am dying to get started with the rest of my blog designing and some sewing. I miss Lyssa to bits!
I think that is everything. If I think of anything else, I'll try and let y'all know!

  2. Congrats on the car and CS5, Riah! It's good to hear you're feeling better and your wedding plans are proceeding decently. Be glad your car has four non-broken tires (it does, right?); I'm waiting for my $430 set of tires to arrive since I was driving my M3 the other night and my front left tire rolled on down the road past me - the outer rim had come off since it had seen a lot of wear and there are lots of bumps and potholes on the road near my house, I think. To make matters worse, the spare tire was a rear tire...my front tires are staggered - the rear tires are wider than the front ones - so the spare rubbed against something and made it harder to steer, and after attaching the spare (which had lug bolts for it rather than lug nuts, making the job more difficult than changing other tires - those crazy Germans) and driving a bit, that tire blew as well! So I got it towed and am now waiting for new tires and will be down several hundred dollars, still without a job. :P I'm sorry - here I am complaining and just rambling on about myself.

  3. @Jessica: Thanks!

@Max: I'm so sorry about your car! That sounds horrible. My car does have four working tires, but it is currently in the shop because the engine was knocking, it was idling too high, the brake wasn't letting off properly... Yeah, fun times. Thankfully it hasn't been 30 days so we don't have to pay for the repairs.

  4. Oh, I forgot to mention something; since you have CS5 now, you might want to look up some PS actions; they can be very useful (as you probably know already). I may have showed you this already, but some of the photographers' pages on this site have free actions available for download (I use some I the ones I've gotten there quite a bit): http://www.photoshop.com/spotlights

You're doing photography shook online? Very cool! I really wish I could learn how to create photo manipulations like Erik Alma's and some of the other photographers

  5. Ugh, my page just reloaded, erasing what I'd typed - curses on that iPhone feature! (this has happened many time before and I made the mistake of not copying and pasting what I'd written to a note; stupid me) And my iPhone also seems to not like comment boxes that are on the same page as the post (i.e. ones that don't open up in a new window); after typing for a while it locks up and won't let me write any more, edit anything or even copy what I've written. :P [update: I'm now typing on my laptop at an Apple Store - my iPhone wasn't cooperating]

Ok, I was talking about Photoshop...I really wish I could learn how to create amazing photo manipulations like Erik Almas and other photographers on the site I linked to as well as many on http://oneeyeland.com and elsewhere and even a lot of the "Photoshopped" digital art you can see online, such as the wallpapers in this YouTube video of Helen Jane Long's song for the piano, Expression (I want to learn to play that song): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fmS_MxfJiCw
Some might argue that that those kinds of images are more digital art than strictly photography, but I'm not the "purist" kind; I view a computer as a modern kind of canvas and a photograph (and Photoshop, etc.) as a tool for creating a work of art. So I don't think photos have to be SOOC...my opinion is whatever editing or anything it takes to create a beautiful image is fine. But that's just my $.02 (or $20, or like - I made that much too long).

Oh yes, and for PS actions, I'm looking at the Pioneer Woman's actions; I've heard hers are pretty good.

Right now Canon has a 15%-off sale on their refurbished DSLRs, lenses and flashes and maybe even more; I don't know if you have any money to spare or would be interested but I thought I'd let you know anyway. I think you can even use the Canon Loyalty Program toward the DSLRs on top of this to get a really big discount. I'd really like to get a 60D body - I like the ergonomics and the flip-out screen is nice...and a Speedlite...and the 70-200 f/2.8L IS II USM (there was a sale on it for less than $2000 new recently!) and a whole bunch of other L lenses. But I have hardly any money, no job, and I haven't even sold my car yet (and I probably need to save for other things). :P Anyway, here's the link:

I'm sorry to hear about your iPod...maybe you should get an iPod Touch or something cool like that. :) I have some music on my iPhone but still use my Zune "brick" because it has more on it and it has buttons so I just set it to shuffle and push the next button through my pocket to skip a song.
